Schedule for the Weekend

As the big day gets closer, we thought it might be helpful to provide a schedule for what we hope is a great weekend!

Friday, August 7

4:00 - Rehearsal

For those of you in the wedding ceremony (bridesmaids, groomsmen, readers, celebrant) who are in town by this time, we will have a short rehearsal at the View Point Inn. We will be in touch with you to coordinate carpooling and to provide directions.

5:30 - Welcome Party

All guests are invited to join us at a lovely local park to kick the weekend off to a great start over BBQ and drinks. The park is approximately 10 minutes away from the Hotel Lucia. We suggest carpooling for the short trip over to ensure that everyone finds a parking space near the picnic site.

Directions from the Hotel Lucia to Washington Park, Site C:

  • Head south on SW Broadway toward SW Washington St (180 ft)
  • Turn right at SW Washington St (0.3 mi)
  • Turn right at SW 14th Ave (174 ft)
  • Turn left at W Burnside St (0.6 mi)
  • Turn left at SW St Clair Ave, before the Chevron station (0.1 mi)
  • Turn right at SW Park Pl (0.2 mi)
  • Turn right at SW Lewis Clark Way
As you round the curve on Lewis Clark Way, the picnic site will be on your left. If you pass the statue of Sacajawea, you've gone too far.

You should try to park on Lewis Clark Way. If all the spaces on Lewis Clark Way are taken, veer left onto SW Sacajawea Blvd (past the statue, in front of the reservoir) and park on that street. If there are no spaces available on Sacajawea Blvd, turn right back onto SW Park Pl and park on the street, hopefully not too far down the hill. From there, you can walk up the steps through the rose garden to the monument which is next to the picnic site.

Directions from Washington Park, Site C to the Hotel Lucia:

  • Turn right at SW Park Pl (0.1 mi)
  • Turn left at SW Vista Ave (0.1 mi)
  • Turn right at W Burnside St (1.0 mi)
  • Turn right at SW Broadway (0.1 mi)

Saturday, August 8

3:30 - Buses to View Point Inn

Buses will pick you up from the front door of the Hotel Lucia and take you to the site of our ceremony and reception, the View Point Inn. They will leave at 3:45, so please be prompt!

4:15 - Wedding Ceremony

5:00 - Cocktail Hour, Dinner, & Dancing

10:00 - Buses to Hotel Lucia

Buses will pick you up from the View Point Inn and return you to the front door of the Hotel Lucia.

10:30 - After Party

If you aren't ready to call it a night, please come to the after party at...somewhere awesome! (We'll have a more definite idea of where by 10:15 that night.) We can't promise we'll make it there, but we will certainly try!

Our Registry

Although the presence of our friends and family at our wedding (most of whom will be traveling great distances to attend) is the only gift that we truly want, some of you have asked whether we are registered. Given that the designer of our Brooklyn apartment thought that kitchen drawers are an unnecessary extravagance and that most people like to have their closets in the dining room such that they must get dressed where they eat, a traditional registry really does not make sense for us.

Therefore, if you would like to give us a gift, we ask that you please contribute to our Honeyfund, which is a registry of honeymoon-related necessities (such as transportation and hotel rooms) and activities (such as SCUBA trips, zipline adventures, and museum tours) for our trips to Kauai

and Italy

Thank you in advance for helping us create a special and exciting start to our life as a married couple!

Things To Do In Oregon

It's amazing to think that the wedding is only two and a half months away! We're extremely excited to hear that so many of you will be making the journey out to the left coast for the celebration! The following is a list of just a few of the fun things to do in Oregon when you aren't partying with us.

Multnomah Falls

You may recognize the Multnomah Falls from our save-the-dates. They are the second highest waterfalls in the United States and are just over 3o minutes from downtown Portland (for directions from the Hotel Lucia, click here). The view is really spectacular and worth the relatively easy hike to the top (relatively easy meaning Will was able to do it).

There are a number of other waterfalls in the area that are discussed in this article from the New York Times' Frugal Traveler, which also discusses cheap golf options in the area.

Powell's Books

We mentioned it in a previous post but it's worth mentioning twice: Powell's Books is undoubtedly a book-lover's dream. It is one of the biggest bookstores in the country with an unbelievable selection. Its flagship store is right in downtown Portland, just a few blocks away from the Hotel Lucia (directions here). You may need to purchase extra luggage to bring home all of the used books you'll discover there.

Oregon Wineries

Oregon is famous for its wines, especially Pinot Noir, with vineyards in the Columbia Gorge and the Willamette Valley. The Columbia Gorge vineyards are closer to Portland although some of the Willamette Valley wineries, which are generally more prestigious, are only an hour away, making a trip to the vineyard a great way to spend an afternoon (with a designated driver, of course).

Mount Hood

Mount Hood is one of the most famous destinations in all of Oregon and it is only ninety minutes away from Portland. It is absolutely gorgeous with hikes ranging from moderate to Cliffhanger-esque. Amazingly, you can still ski in August if you are so inclined. To top it all off (literally), you can check out the Timberline Lodge, which served as the exterior for the Overlook Hotel in "The Shining." Given the time of year, there hopefully wouldn't be a need to call on Scatman Crothers and his not-so-speedy Snowcat.

Ashland & Crater Lake

For those of you who are thinking about spending time outside of Portland before or after the wedding, we can enthusiastically recommend a trip to Oregon's southern border for two reasons.

Ashland is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, one of the largest theater festivals in the country. This year's festival features productions of Macbeth, Don Quixote, and The Music Man, as well as many other productions. With hikes and whitewater rafting nearby, you can take some days off from the theater and create some drama of your own. Tickets sell out early, so purchase them ahead of time.

Crater Lake is a natural wonder: created by the collapse of a volcano, it is the deepest lake in the United States. Because there is very little plant life in the lake, it is amazingly blue and you can see all the way to the bottom! Hike to the top of the mountain (which should still be snow-covered in August!) to take in the view. Click here for more information about this national park.

Again, these are just a few suggestions - there is lots to do in Portland, including the Zoo and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry for kids and Widmer and Rogue Breweries for adults. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or want more ideas!

Places To Rest Your Weary Heads

For the approximately 97% of you looking for a place to stay while in Portland, we found a great place: the Hotel Lucia, located in the Pearl District, which is full of great restaurants and stores, including the best bookstore in the world.

Please call 877-225-1717 or 503-225-1717 and mention the Noone/Miller Wedding to make a reservation at our discounted rate. The rate includes free wireless internet and $15 overnight valet parking (as opposed to the normal $30). Plus, the discounted rate applies to all reservations from 8/3/09 through 8/10/09 for those of you who plan to stay in Portland for several days.

If you're looking for something a little more offbeat, we also recommend the Ace Hotel. It's a very cool hotel, also in the Pearl District, with extremely unique rooms (check them out). We aren't using the Ace Hotel as our home base for the wedding because, though the rooms provide turntables, many don't feature doors separating the bathroom from bedroom, which isn't for everyone. However, we really loved it and thought some of you would too. Plus, it's very close to the Lucia, which is the pick-up/drop-off point for the shuttles on the wedding day, so it won't be inconvenient for anyone choosing to stay there.
